KFCB and Royal Media Services Commit to Enhancing Compliance and Consumer Safety
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) and Royal Media Services (RMS) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening consumer safety, regulatory compliance, and responsible content distribution through enhanced collaboration.
The commitment was made during a strategic meeting held on Monday, June 8, 2026, between the KFCB Management team, led by Ag. CEO Ms. Nelly Muluka and RMS Managing Director Mr. Wachira Waruru.
The discussions focused on regulatory compliance, the Self-Classification framework, and key areas of partnership, with particular emphasis on compliance and consumer awareness initiatives aimed at promoting safe and responsible media consumption.
Ms. Muluka highlighted the Board’s regulatory mandate and underscored the importance of the Self-Classification framework in promoting compliance within the audiovisual sector.
She commended RMS for embracing the framework and noted that its implementation continues to support responsible content dissemination.
The Ag. CEO further emphasised the need to strengthen collaboration in advancing public awareness through the Board’s Parental Digital Literacy (PaDiL) Programme, which seeks to equip parents and guardians with knowledge and tools to protect children in the digital space. She described RMS as a critical partner in driving the initiative's reach and impact.
Additionally, Ms. Muluka reiterated the Board’s commitment to partnering with RMS in rolling out the Cine-Mobile initiative, a programme designed to bring cinema experiences to grassroots communities across the country. She also identified training and capacity building as important areas for continued cooperation.
On his part, Mr. Waruru reaffirmed RMS’s commitment to working closely with the Board, particularly in implementing the Self-Classification framework, noting that it would further enhance compliance standards within the broadcast industry.
He also commended KFCB for its efforts in promoting child online safety and protecting children and other vulnerable audiences from exposure to inappropriate content.
“I highly appreciate the partnership, and we are committed to working together to ensure that families remain safe,” he added.
KFCB is a State regulatory agency mandated under the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap. 222, to regulate audiovisual content and promote national values while fostering a safe and responsible audiovisual environment for children and other vulnerable audiences.
