Spotlight on Local Talent: KFCB joins Creatives at Filmmakers Hangout and TUFA Awards 2025
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) joined creatives and other stakeholders at the 6th edition of the Filmmakers Hangout and the inaugural TUFA Awards held at the Nairobi Film Centre (NFC) on Saturday 6th December 2025.
Representing KFCB at the event, Mr. Brian Ombayo, Senior Film Registration Officer and Head of the Nairobi Film Centre, lauded the organisers for creating a platform that celebrates local talent and strengthens the film ecosystem, particularly for upcoming creatives.
Mr. Ombayo reaffirmed KFCB’s commitment to supporting the growth of Kenya’s film industry for job creation and wealth generation, in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He emphasised that the creative economy remains a key contributor to Kenya's GDP.

“Through initiatives such as the Creatives in Arts and Film Literacy (CAFIL) Programme and the Nairobi Film Centre, among others, KFCB continues to support local talent, promote film literacy, and collaborate with industry stakeholders to foster an enabling regulatory environment where creativity can thrive,” he stated.
Mr. Ombayo encouraged creatives to produce more local content, noting that global audiences are eager for authentic African stories. He urged them to explore diverse monetisation pathways, harness digital platforms, build strategic partnerships, and leverage distribution networks and licensing opportunities.
“Creativity is no longer just an art—it is a profession, a source of income, and a powerful catalyst for national transformation,” he remarked.

He further called on filmmakers to invest in child-friendly content, observing that demand for such material is rising and the market remains largely untapped.
“By telling authentic, safe, and entertaining stories for children, we safeguard our values while tapping into a commercially rewarding sector,” he said.
During the event, eight locally produced films were screened, with outstanding filmmakers receiving certificates, branded trophies among other goodies courtesy of KFCB and partners.
